253/365: The Wonder of Finding You At All
We will say goodbye.
Everything under the moon and beyond moves on
from the things that love it.
We will each of us leave this place.
We are each of us a rare flower bound for extinction.
I see your face and know
I will never see this one again,
not this one in this moment
with that same wrinkle at the eye.
Tomorrow it may deepen
or be lost in the folds of new concern.
This is how we bloom in every moment.
My heart beats a faster tattoo,
thudding my breastbone's back,
with both delight and fear,
at the wonder of finding you at all.
I am writing one poem every day in 2016, and I am using the hashtag #365poems to document my progress.
