31/365: People Don't Leave

Elan Morgan

When it's finally quiet and I am alone,
after all the talk and hugging and long looks,
I let the house go dark and sit.

I think about the flowers and photos,
all the people he loved who came,
who hugged strangers,
who sang
and made every song a love song.

People don't leave.
It's the only thought I have.
People don't leave.

I am writing one poem every day in 2016, and I am using the hashtag #365poems to document my progress.
