Gratitude List 1112: An Old Friend, Birds, Rain, Raspberry Biscuits, and Plans
Weekend before last I went on a 5km hike with my friend Geof who I’ve known since 1993. It’s good to have the kind of friend who’ll still spend ages trekking around a river and across a train bridge with you after 26 years.
While we were on that walk, we saw geese and ducks and cormorants and pelicans all fishing in the river together. The pelicans were so large next to the other birds that they looked more like puffs of whipped cream than proper birds at a distance. The cormorants looked like apostrophes with their slim bodies hidden in the water.
It rained most of the day so that by the time I left the house in late afternoon I had to skip over small rivers at curbs and crumbling sidewalks.
I discovered that you can make biscuits with strong raspberry tea instead of milk, and they are damn delicious with generous amounts of butter and honey.
I feel like a hidden part at the back of my brain is hatching good plans. I don’t know what they are yet, but another part of myself is working on them, so I’m chuffed.
