Check out my latest piece at Aiming Low – "One Person's Fries From Yesterday Are Another's Delicious Breakfast Today":
I remember being shown charts of Canada's Food Guide (pdf) and being told how important fruits and whole grains were. I was told that children who ate breakfast did better in school and were healthier overall. When I was told that eating the crusts on my toast would put hair on my chest, I started eating them first, which I still do to this day. I wanted to grow up healthy and strong and, apparently, woolly.
