Before I go on about these fantastic Dansko boots of mine, here is a completely dorky picture of me enjoying them in stupidly cold weather:
The Palinode and I went out with two purposes in mind: to eat at the Russian deli we've heard so much about and to take pictures of me about town in my favourite boots. We live in Saskatchewan, though, and it ended up being -30°C (-22°F), so our photo shoot about town ended up being a fast shot with my iPhone while I tried to look kicky in front of the windows of an office filled with men who probably thought I was just as dorktastic as I felt while I tried to ignore the fact that I was growing extra chins and losing the rest of my face to frostbite.
And then I went to work where I sell shoes part time to people in person and came home to finish the photo shoot by myself while besieged by cats, because the Palinode was out at some dinner party. This blogging gig is very glamourous always.
Back to the Brielle black milled nappa Belmont Collection boots, which is why I am here writing all of this: I love them, and not only because Dansko gave them to me. I have been a fan of Dansko for over a year since the Palinode gave me a pair of professional black tooled stapled clogs as an early Christmas present last year.
In October, I decided that I needed a second pair and picked up some professional grey prism patent stapled clogs. I clearly developed strong feelings about them, if my talk of them smacking you in the face like a gay unicorn on steroids was any indication.
I know my pictures are terrible, but I was dodging three cats, one of whom is 17 pounds of aggressive love muffin.
Right, the boots.
As you can see, they have a slouchy look without making me look like I have cankles, which is a very important feature. I am anti-cankle.
You people with the cankles can get rankled at my anti-cankle stance all you want. Rankled canklers. I'm just not a fan. I am aesthetically predisposed to non-cankly ankles, and mine in particular. I like my ankles.
And there you have my indelicate attempt at taking a picture of the backs of the boots mid-wear. Now you'll never know what my butt looks like when I twist around 90 degrees while leaning over backwards, trying to hold an iPhone steady, and yelling at a herd of felines. You're missing out, let me tell you.
Design-wise, I really like this boot. The zipper is reinforced by an extra layer of leather on either side, and there is an elastic panel hidden by leather strips at the top inside of each boot that allows for a snug fit around the calf with a bit of give. At 2 5/8 inches, the heel doesn't feel too high for walking comfort, which was a surprise for this generally flat-shoed person, and the heel is wide enough that I felt completely stable even as I trekked all over Regina's snowy streets today. I made it through not only alive but intact!
What really makes this boot for me is that the removable insole is made of a thick layer of shock-absorbing foam with good arch support. I find it rare for heeled footwear to offer any arch support, and I was really happy to experience it here.
I've been wearing this pair of boots with pretty much everything since I got them. They look good over jeans, under dress pants, and with the dress I was wearing today. They've become my go-to footwear, and I'd be lying if I said that I didn't want them in brown, too.
So, here's where we get to the interesting part: I'M GIVING A PAIR AWAY TO ONE LUCKY READER.
