For The Love Of An Ear
I am in love with this man's ear.
When I woke up this morning, there it was in all its earness, the morning sun shining through it in soft shades of red and orange, outlining it in a soft halo of fine hair.
Perhaps it is because I had just opened my eyes from a vivid dream in which my cat, Oskar, confessed to me that he was John McCain, and then he showed me that he had John McCain's mouth, which completely creeped my shit out, but I thought that the Palinode's ear was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.
It felt as though I were marvelling at a child. When children are asleep, their features look so blissful and idyllic, and that is how I saw the Palinode's ear in the early sun.
It seems strange now to relate it, because on the surface of things, it is just an ear, and he is my spouse of over seven years, and I have had many sightings of this ear since 1993, but this morning, it was new again. I loved it again for the first time. I wanted to eat it like buttered toast with brown sugar.
But then, because I was poking him in the back of the head with a camera lens, he woke up, so rather than ears, we shared coffee and snuggled under the blankets.
"Put your ear down close to your soul and listen hard."
