I Am A Small Bucket

I held up my leg in the weak morning light.

Look at that. It's time for summer already. I'm a little pale, I said to the Palinode.

You're a small bucket, he said.

Oh, I see. Little pale / small bucket. Funny. I am ever the dull hammer. Thankfully, the Palinode knows to pause and wait respectfully while I catch up to his jokes. Has anyone ever told you that you're clever? I asked.

This is the first time I've ever been told that by a small bucket, that's for sure.
